7 Ways to Simplify Your Fitness Routine
Keeping fitness simple is one of the best ways to make sure that you stay active and healthy in the long term. Remember, consistency is one of the most important aspects in achieving your fitness goals so use these tips below to create a fitness program that helps you stay on track.
- Exercise at home. Home is where you live your life so it's the ultimate in convenience when it comes to a workout setting. You don't have to drive anywhere or worry about having stylish fitness gear. Plus, if the weather is nice, you can easily go to a nearby park, track, or field for more variety.
- Exercise at work. Outside of home, your workplace is where you likely spend most of your time so it's a great place to get in some exercise. If you're feeling tired or need an escape, 10-minutes of simple exercise can be a much healthier alternative to taking a coffee break or heading out for a big lunch. Even if your building doesn't have a dedicated exercise room, you can easily go for a walk outside, find some stairs to climb, or use a small area of empty floorspace for some push-ups and sit-ups.
- Make smart gym decisions. Naturally, gyms can provide an excellent workout setting, though be sure and choose one that is easy to get to, fits your budget, and is open during the hours that work for you. There can be a lot of distractions at a gym as well, so always have a workout plan each time you go in.
- Dress for success. Try to consider your fitness plans when choosing an outfit for the day so you'll face the least hassle when it comes time to exercise. You may not even have to change clothes depending on your office dress code and the nature of your workout. If you do, be sure to take advantage of the on-site facilities available, like showers and lockers, so you can conveniently integrate your workout.
- Plan your workout. It's best to have a structured workout program to go by that is visible to you before, during, and after your workout. This tangible element helps to reinforce your intentions, motivate you to fully complete the workout, and give you a sense of accomplishment afterwards. Avoid tying your plan too closely to any specific site or equipment as it may be unavailable, and always have some alternative exercises in mind that you can substitute.
- Take it with you. The more portable your fitness plan is, the better, as it can adapt to your life if you have to rearrange your schedule or are traveling for work or vacation. A small notebook, PDA, or cellphone that can go anywhere with you in your purse or pocket is a better way to go than a large book, a laptop, or fitness videos.
- Schedule your workout. Plan blocks of time for exercise into your calendar for exercise each week and try to keep those as a priority. By scheduling your workout, you ensure that you will have time for exercise and also reinforce the notion that health and fitness is important for you.
- (Bonus) Go do it! Although these tips can help you make exercise a fun and easy part of your life, it's your active participation that will improve your health and enable you to achieve your fitness goals. nexFIT is always there to help you succeed and now you can help improve nexFIT by filling out THIS SURVEY
